VT Distracted Driving Safety Day, State House Lawn, Montpelier
We have Sharon Huntley on board for the event. She is a great spokesperson for the story of losing her son to distracted driving.
‘Live Without Your Phone’ Sharon Huntley
Sharon Huntley brings her personal story of loss to focus on the dangers and ultimate cost of distracted driving. Highlighting her son Spencer’s death at age 18 due to distracted driving, she shares an opening video of her son, talks about his last few moments and shows a picture of the scene of the accident. Once she has their attention, the lecture focuses on teenage distracted driving statistics and the physiological limitations of the brain. Using data and educational study results, she shows that the brain in fact, cannot do two things at once. She touches on the Vermont state law, its consequences and outlines strategies for eliminating your phone as a distraction while driving.
