This level of training is required for individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release.
Employees completing this level of training, are limited in their response actions to notifying the appropriate authorities of the release.
OSHA recommends that at least one employee per shift be provided with training to the Awareness Level or above to ensure that someone is available that can identify an emergency. These people would distinguish between spills that can be cleaned up by employees who are not trained to handle releases and those who are trained.
