LEARN HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY
AND NEIGHBORS
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to
signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults.
You’ll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to those
who are struggling. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support.
AFTER THE COURSE, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:
• Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
• Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
• Understand how to interact with a person in crisis.
• Know how to connect a person with help.
• Use self-care tools and techniques.

Free for VSHC members, Non VSHC Members will be charged a $25 fee at the door

Speaker Shannon Prescott
Shannon Prescott, CWCA, COSS, is the Director of Risk Control of The Richards Group, serving Business
Insurance clients with employment practice compliance and safety program evaluation and
implementation, helping them achieve compliance with OSHA, DOT and DOL regulations. In addition,
she provides First Aid/CPR courses and Mental Health First Aid courses. Shannon is a licensed Property &
Casualty Producer, a Certified WorkComp Advisor, a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist and is an
Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for General Industry and Construction courses. Shannon serves on
the Stone Soup Café Board, the VT Safety & Health Council, her local Youth Commission and is also an
active member of the Massachusetts based, Franklin County Young Professionals, currently serving as
the organization’s Chairperson.
