Instructor: RON COONS, CATAMOUNT CONSULTING

There are approximately two million construction workers that are exposed to Respirable Silica every year. OSHA estimates that their new silica standard will save over 700 lives and prevent more than 1,600 new cases of silicosis each year. In order for this new standard to be effective however, employers and their workers need to be properly educated about silica and new requirements set forth in the new standard.

During this session, we will talk about the health effects of silica, potential exposures, engineering and work practice controls that can be implemented to minimize and eliminate exposures, respiratory protection as well as new requirements under OSHA’s silica standard such as newly revised permissible exposure limits, medical surveillance and enforcement efforts.

Those participants that complete this session can be considered a “competent person” under the new standard.
